Governor’s Mansion to exhibit African-American art

COLUMBIA – South Carolina First Gentleman Michael Haley is inviting the public to view what he calls a “one-of-a-kind” exhibit of African-American art at the Governor’s Mansion.

The exhibit features pieces originally owned by the Old Slave Mart Museum and is currently on loan from the Greater Acacia Collection, a foundation that maintains and preserves thousands of artifacts chronicling the African-American journey.

Crappie Masters coming to Lake Marion

crappie mastersLake Marion will host a Crappie Masters tournament this weekend, with a Big Fish Challenge on Friday and a one-day national qualifier on Saturday. Seminars for both events will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Manning High School on Paxville Highway. Arrest made in Summerton shooting

anthony thomas jamesThe Clarendon County Sheriff’s Department has arrested a 23-year-old man for his role in a home invasion on Feb. 6 that resulted in the shooting death of an 18-year-old North Carolina Man. Anthony Thomas James, 23, of 1100 K.W. Hodge Road in Manning, was charged Tuesday evening with murder, according to Maj. Kipp Coker.  He is one of two suspects deputies allege invaded a home on Furse Road in Summerton on Feb. 6. USC Upstate posts Fall 2013 honor roll

USCupstate-logoThe University of South Carolina Upstate has announced its Chancellor’s and Dean’s lists for the Fall 2013 semester, with three Clarendon County residents named to each.

Emily Bryant and Jenna Foster, both of Manning, and Tyrone Cummings, earned a 4.0 GPA and were enrolled in at least 12 course hours to earn their spots on the Chancellor’s List. Jillian Benton and Deleisha McFadden, both of Manning, and Courtney Manning of Summerton earned a 3.25 GPA or higher and were enrolled in at least 12 course hours to earn their spots on the Dean’s List. New Covenant services canceled Wednesday

New Covenant Presbyterian Church’s elders have canceled all Wednesday activities due to impending inclement weather. The church will not have its Wednesday after-school program, with no meal or Bible study following. There will be no youth activities or session meeting. The Sweetheart Banquet scheduled for 6:30 p.m. today will still be held.

Samuels Funeral Home LLC handling services for Maurice Conyers

Funeral services for Maurice Jeffery Conyers will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home of Manning.

Conyers, 23, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014, in Manning.

Born Feb. 28, 1990, in Manning, he was a son of Unie James and Mashell Conyers.

The family will receive friends at the home of his aunt, Donna Conyers, 1947 Paddock Road in Manning.


LMA B-Team games moved up today
