The Manning Police Department put away more than 70 grams of marijuana over the weekend, and arrested two of the individuals police believe were distributing it.
Trent Lamark Williams, 25, of 726 Barnwell Road in Manning, and Corey Simmons, 17, of 1305 DuRant Lane in Manning, were each charged with one count of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute about 10 p.m. Saturday after a traffic stop. A 15-year-old girl was also detained with the men.

BLYTHEWOOD – Cynthia Sue Willard Fox, 60, wife of 36 years to Brian Matthew Fox, died Thursday, July 17, 2014, at her home.
Born June 23, 1954, in Birmingham, Ala., she was a daughter of the late Rex Tucker Willard and Pauline Elizabeth Prather Willard. She graduated from Western Carolina University in 1976, receiving a bachelor’s degree in art education. She then moved to Manning, where she taught art in Clarendon School District 2 and for a year at Greeleyville Elementary School.

Ellen Florence Koel Lowery, 80, wife of John Howard Logan, died Thursday, July 17, 2014, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital.
Born Aug. 4, 1933, in Sheldon Township, Minn., she was a daughter of the late Lawrence Koel and Gladys O’Heron Koel. She was the former owner-operator of a used furniture business.
Survivors besides her husband of Manning include three sons, Ralph Brown and Roger (Kay) Brown, both of Myrtle Beach, and Steven Dillow (Tammy) of Manning; a daughter, Marilyn Anderson (Lance) of Minnesota; 12 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren.

SUMTER – Dr. Charles Herman Andrews Jr. , 95, beloved husband of 67 years of the late Leila Virginia Riley Andrews, died Saturday, July 19, 2014, at McElveen Manor.

Julius Dukes and Gloria Frierson will face off at the polls today, with voters in the District 5 special election runoff heading to the Cypress Center between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. The winner of tonight’s election will fill the unexpired term of the late Gregory Witherspoon, who died March 20. Records show several tracts of land near Lake Marion have been placed into conservation easement. The properties lie south and east of Elliot’s Landing and run parallel to Old River Road. Charles Jeffery Parker of 113 Robert St. in Manning had been out of the Clarendon County Detention Center for just three days after being charged with motor vehicle theft, disorderly conduct and driving under suspension, when he was apprehended again and charged with two counts each of second-degree burglary and petit larceny of $2,000 or less.

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for east central Georgia and central South Carolina as thunderstorms are likely throughout the rest of the day.
High temperatures today should reach the mid 80s with winds out of the east at 3 to 7 mph. Tonight’s temperatures will drop to the low 70s as our chance of precipitation decreases to 50 percent.

The Clarendon Soil and Water Conservation District has partnered with Clemson University Extension and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service to hold a Soil Health Workshop at 10 a.m. Aug. 13 at the F.E. DuBose Center.
Topics for the workshop will include the basics of soil health; where South Carolina currently is; South Carolina’s future outlook; and the use of cover crops as a tool for soil health. The conclusion of the meeting will feature a farmer panel that will include producers from across the state who have been utilizing cover crops on their farms.

SUMTER – Sara Ann Graham Scott, 81, died Saturday, July 19, 2014, at Lake Marion Nursing Facility in Summerton.
Born June 21, 1933, in Pinewood, she was a daughter of the late Charles Graham and Mildred Ruth Ardis Graham. She was a member of Pinewood United Methodist Church. A 1952 graduate of Pinewood High School, she was a member of the basketball team and served as senior editor of the Pine Bur staff.
During her senior year, her classmates named her the most athletic and wittiest of the senior class.
