clarendon1clarendon1Scott’s Branch Middle and High School Principal Gwendolyn Harris said Tuesday that the high school received a Palmetto Gold Award, while the middle school received a Palmetto Silver Award, both for student achievement based on test scores.

She is hard-of-hearing, but the family is hoping someone will see her and help get her home before she gets lost in the cold weather. According to reports, Christopher Shadd’s 34-year-old mother told deputies that her son left about noon Saturday while he was doing yard work. She said she received a Facebook message from her son’s juvenile neighborhood friend saying her son was “sorry and that he loved her.” The woman said she does not know where the boy could have gone. Harvest Community School receives $500 grant

harvestharvestFarm Bureau Agent Wayne McKenzie presented a $500 check Wednesday morning to students, faculty and staff at Harvest Community School in Summerton. The school won the Dueling Dirt contest in mid-October through votes on Facebook. The $500 Garden Grant from Farm Bureau Insurance of South Carolina will go to help the students maintain their own garden. “We started one last year, but it was kind of a garden on a dime,” said Headmaster Angie Bruner. “The kids loved the concept of having a  garden. Manning Police warn of scam on elderly residents

SCAMSCAMThe Manning Police Department is warning elderly residents to be on the lookout for a financial scam within city limits. Inv. Rick Elms said Wednesday that a 79-year-old woman living on Calhoun Street in Manning was the first victim the city is aware of. According to reports, two unknown black women approached the woman Nov. 18, saying they had a box of cash. In this scam, the suspects offered the woman $20,000 – the alleged contents of the box – if she put up $400. Change, DVDs stolen from Summerton home

Crime-ReportsCrime-ReportsA 46-year-old woman living in the 1400 block of Governor Richardson Highway in Summerton told deputies with the Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office about 2 p.m. Nov. 14 that an unknown person entered her home and stole about $20 worth of change and two DVDs with the TV show “Dallas” on them. She said she knew the home was broken into because her front door was open, and she had the front door nailed shut as she doesn’t use it.

Today should be sunny with a high near 49 as light and variable winds shift to the south at 5 to 7 mph. Tonight should be clear with a low around 26.

Vince Pace joins First Citizens’ Agricultural banking team

imageimageVince Pace MARION  – First Citizens announced Tuesday that Vince Pace has joined the company’s Agricultural Lending Group as Relationship Manager for Marion, Horry, Georgetown, Williamsburg and Clarendon counties. In his role, Pace will be responsible for expanding relationships with agriculture-based businesses and developing customized lending solutions for agriculture customers’ equipment, crop production and land acquisition needs. Pace will be based at the company’s Kingstree and Marion branches, located at 200 West Main Street and 214 North Main Street respectively.

Manning man charged with burglary
