The Phi Omega Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. held its 2014 Miss Ivy Pearl and Little Miss Ivy Pearl pageants Sunday at Manning Junior High School. “We allowed this year’s contestants to participate in community projects,” said President Alfreda Cooper in a release. “They were encouraged ot have friends and family members donate (more than) 150 pounds (of) nonperishable food items to the United Ministries of (Clarendon County).” The young ladies also collected about 35 word puzzles and word finds for Branco Adult Daycare of Manning. The Lady Wolverines brought a win home in the second of three games in the state championship series. MPS Night to cap-off school’s 60th anniversary year

The Manning Primary School family has celebrated the school’s 60th birthday throughout the 2013-14 school year, holding a parade and other family events to honor the milestone. The final event of the year will be MPS Night, as past and present administrators, faculty, staff, students, parents and volunteers and community members are acknowledged. The program begins 6 p.m. Thursday in the MPS cafeteria.

Absentee ballots now available for June primaries

absenteeabsenteeAbsentee ballots for the June 10 Republican and Democratic primaries are now available at the Clarendon County Voter Registration Office in the County Administration Building, 411 Sunset Drive in Manning. You can also call the office at (803) 435-8215 and have the application for the ballot mailed to you. The ballot must be returned to Voter Registration by June 9 if mailed, 7 p.m. June 10 if hand-delivered.

Watercraft collision victim succumbs to injuries

Millicent “Milli Gee” McDonald of Wash Davis Road in Summerton died about 6:15 p.m. Tuesday from injuries sustained in a jet ski accident on Monday evening. Authorities say McDonald, 19, and Florence resident Justin Walsh, 25, collided in the Taw Caw area of Lake Marion about 7:15 p.m. Monday, and that McDonald was airlifted to Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia.

Santee Summer Ministry returns this weekend

Rose Wilder may not extend contract in 2017

Tuesday. “I have three years left on this contract after this school year ends. I’m thinking of retirement, but I’m not sure yet.”

EMS_1EMS_1ROBERT FALLS / SPECIAL TO THE TIMES A 19-year-old Summerton woman is in critical condition at a Columbia hospital after a jet ski accident late Monday afternoon. S.C. Department of Natural Resources Capt. Robert McCullough said Milli “Gee” McDonald’s jet ski collided with that of a 25-year-old male. Gee was airlifted to the hospital in Richland County. “At this point she is in critical condition, that’s all I know,” McCullough said.
