The Laurence Manning Team placed Second in the SCDNR State Sporting Clay Shoot. Broughton Lester, Reese McInnis and Morgan Lowder competed for Laurence Manning. They are all eighth graders.

LMA B team baseball earns win over Providence Athletic Club

Laurence Manning Academy travelled to Columbia Feb. 26 to play Providence Atheletic Club. The Swampcats earned the win by a score of 12 to 1.

On the mount for LMA were Cam Branham, Dalton Brown, TJ Hicks, and Jackson Clemmons. They combined to give up only 1 hit and struck out 7 batters.

Jackson Brown went 2 for 2 and Lowden Olsen was 3 for 4.

Clarendon Hall JV softball opened it’s season with 16-0 victory over Dorchester Academy. Amberly Way took the mound earning the winm and strikeing out 5. The game was called after 3 innings. Way was 3 for 3 at the plate with 2 RBIs.

Hadleigh McIntosh was 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs as well. Macie McIntosh and Wells James were 2 for 2. McKenley Wells was 2 for 3.

The Lady Saints will travel to Holly Hill Academy Tues. March 6.


East Clarendon ladies dominate Timmonsville High, win 1A State Championship

The East Clarendon girls basketball team won the South Carolina High School League 1A state championship crown. EC took on Timmonsville High School at the Colonial Life Arena in Columbia by a score of 55 to 31. This is East Clarendon’s first championship title. It was a total team effort that kept Timmonsville off balance to finish the season as number 1.

Congratulations to the two teams who represented Clarendon Hall School last Saturday in the SC High School Bass Challenge! This is part of the SC Lower State BASS High School Tournament Trail. Coached by Robbie Richburg and Danny Shanz, our two teams did very well in their first tournament. Gage Richburg and Olivia Wilson placed fourth out of 95 boats and only missed third place by 4 ounces. Hunter Richburg and Christian Higbe also placed in the top 20. Their next tournament is scheduled for March 31st and will take place on Lake Murray.


Clarendon Pride Basketball team finishes championship season

The Clarendon Pride Basketball Team of the Clarendon County Recreational Department (CCRD) concluded its championship season Feb. 16 at the Weldon Auditorium. The Pride finished with a 9-1 record to take this year’s championship. Team members are: JoQuarius Miller, Tristan Washington, Silvester Dozier, Deondre Hilton, Chi’Quan Giles, Jamari Wilson, James Dinkins, Jamon Brock and Lavonte James, Head Coach Marty Lemon and assistant coaches, Shawn Taylor and JoJo Miller.

LMA b team baseball shuts out Wilson Hall

Laurence Manning’s B team baseball squad defeated Wilson Hall, 4-0 Wed. March 1. Jackson Clemmons and Henry DuRant took the mound for LMA, keeping Wilson Hall scoreless through 7 innings. Clemmons picked up his first win of the year while DuRant struck out 8 over the final 5 innings.

Connor Smith was 2-3 with a triple and Austin Geddings was 1-1 with a walk.

The Swampcats will host East Clarendon at 4:30 p.m. March 7.

The Clarendon Hall Saints Varsity Baseball team defeated The Kings Academy by a score of 13-12. The teams were tied at the end of regulation play, forcing them to square off for an extra inning. The Saints scored the winning run in the bottom of the 8th.

The Saints were led at the plate by Jonathan McIntosh going 3-4 and 2 RBIs. Dylan Way was 1-2 on the night and pitched 2 innings with 3 strikeouts.

It was a battle of the bats in the Swamp as the Laurence Manning Lady Swampcats played host to the Lady Warhawks of Colleton Prep Academy Feb. 23. The Swampcats came out on top, winning the game 15-12 and improving to 2-0 on the season. Hannah Kate Branham secured the win on the mound for the Swampcats.

East Clarendon finished off Scott’s Branch in the SCHSL Lower State Basketball Championship game. The Wolverines beat the Eagles 64 – 47. They will travel to Columbia to face Timmonsville High School for the State Championship at 10:30 March 3.

The Lady Wolverines of East Clarendon and the Scott’s Branch Eagles travelled to Florence to play for the Lower State Championship. At the end of the first half, East Clarendon let the Eagles 29-23.


LMA Golf team opens season with first place finish

Laurence Manning Academy hosted Calhoun Academy and Cardinal Newman Academy’s Varsity Men’s golf teams at The Players Course at Wyboo in Manning for a non-conference match. LMA finished in first place. Grant Kinlaw and Lexi Bennett ended the match with 43 strokes. Van Gardner shot a 44 and Harper Epperson ended the day at 45 for a final total team score of 175.

Calhoun Academy finished second in this event with low scores from John Michael Flintom with 39, Clay Crenshaw with 40, Pressley Smith and Garrett Phillips had 50 for a total team score of 179. Flintom had the … Read the rest


Clarendon Elite hosts annual youth football camp June 15, 16

Clarendon Elite will host it’s 2nd Annual Youth Football Camp on June 15 and 16. This year the camp will be an overnight event. The event will be held at Manning High School’s Ramsey Stadium and John F. Thames Gymnasium. All participants can be dropped off at 4:00 p.m. June 15 at Ramsey Stadium and will begin the first part of the camp. Athletes will then transition to the gymnasium for team building exercises and leisure time.

LMA Middle school soloist Kinsey Hatchell had the highest scoring ballet dance at the SCISA Dance State Championship Thursday night.

The Swampcat dance teams brought home championships for elementary and middle school level. The high school dance team finished 2nd overall.

Monday night, Clarendon County had two high school teams in playoff competition to earn the chance to play for the Lower State Championship at the Florence Civic Center this Friday. The East Clarendon Wolverines visited Palmetto Scholars Academy in North Charleston and earned a big victory on the road, 73 to 37. The Wolverines went 14-6 this year with a 6-1 region record. This game was part of the 2018 SCHSL Girls State Basketball State Championships – Class A Girls Basketball tournament. The Lady Swampcats defeated the Carolina Academy Lady Bobcats, 17 – 2, Wednesday night.

Hannah Kate Branham was the winning pitcher for the Swampcats. She had 16 strikeouts and 5 walks through 5 innings.

Lindsey Barwick led the Lady Swampcats at the plate. She reached the bases safely 3 out of 4 at-bats with a double, 2 singles and 5 RBIs, Anna Marie Beard went 3 for 4 with a walk, three singles and two RBIs. Branham went 2 for 3 with 2 walks, a single and an in-the-park homerun. She also had an RBI.
