‘Adopt a Teacher Manning’ program is off to a great start

The program is designed to assist teachers with the purchase of much needed supplies that they need to educate the students. Items such as pencils, paper, notepads, tape and many others are needed. HENRY LIDE DURANT

On Thursday, July 24, 2019, Henry Lide DuRant (Bongo) entered into eternal rest at the age of 83. His Graveside Service will be held Saturday, August 3, 2019 at DuRant-New Harmony Cemetery at the corner of I-95 and N. Brewington Road, Gable, SC. ANTHONY WALDEN ELLIOTT

PINEWOOD – Anthony Walden Elliott, 57, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 29, 2019.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Amelia Keith “Mimi” Elliott; stepsons, Caleb Ellis (Katherine) and Dallas Ellis; brother, Phillip Elliott (Lisa); sister, Dora Jane Barwick (Mike); nieces, Rachel and Emma Elliott and Tarissa Barwick; and step granddaughter, Margot Blair Ellis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Anthony Wayne “Tony” Elliott and Elizabeth Ward Elliott.

Mocha is a 13.5 year old, brown, female, Siamese cat. She is a super sweet cat, and laid back. Mocha is up to date on all her vaccinations, spayed, and tested negative for Feline Leukemia and Aids. Mocha gets along with other cats, but generally stays more to herself. She loves attention, and will sit in your lap all day! Mocha has Stomatitis, but she still lives a healthy life. Clarendon School District Two Superintendent Dr Shawn Johnson has called for a meeting to be held Tuesday, July 30 at 5:30 pm. The meeting will be held at the school district office at 15 Major Drive in Manning. The public is welcomed to attend.

PINEWOOD – Stephen Lamar “Sparky” Johnson, Jr., 46, husband of Pamela McLeod Johnson, died Friday, July 26, 2019.

Born September 9, 1972, in Sumter, he was a son of Glenda Fender Johnson and the late Stephen Lamar Johnson, Sr. He was the owner and manager of both Waccamaw Bingo and BridleStone. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, handy man and loved spending time with his family. He was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church.

SUMTER – Stephen Lamar “Steve” Johnson, Sr., 73, husband of Glenda Fender Johnson, died Friday, July 26, 2019.

Born February 1, 1946, in Mullins, he was a son of the late Benjamin Frank Johnson and the late Ruth Doyle Johnson. He was the owner of several businesses including Waccamaw Bingo, Styles by Steve, BridleStone, A Ring Around the Roses and 521 Bingo in Sumter. He was an avid outdoorsman, handy man and he loved hummingbirds. He was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church.

Arrests made in connection with Turbeville shooting

On July 19, deputies from Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of hearing gunshots in a neighborhood in Turbeville. According to reports, a group of men were standing near the road talking. When another male drove up to speak to one of the group that he recognized, he heard of guns being mentioned while others were arguing. As the man left the area, he heard gunshots and the window of his car shattered. He then called law enforcement once the situation calmed down. Further examination revealed more bullet holes in his vehicle.
