RUTH LOUISE DANIELS SHORTER

SUMTER – Ruth Louise Daniels Shorter, 80, died Thursday, June 27, 2019, at the home of her daughter.

Born November 7, 1938, in Kingstree, she was a daughter of the late Edward Russell Daniels, Sr. and the late Ruth Louise Mims Daniels. She was the business manager of the Radiation Oncology Department at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence and later at Grand Strand Radiation Oncology in Myrtle Beach. She was a licensed practical nurse in North Carolina at Friends Home West for 19 years. She was of the Baptist faith.

Carl McIntosh presented a patch to the outgoing President of the Rotary Club of Manning, G.G. Cutter today at the weekly luncheon. Cutter was given this due to his active participation and leadership, as well as his impact on outreach programs and membership growth.

Carl McIntosh is the Rotary Club’s Assistant Governor of District 7770.

SUMMERTON – Joanne Elaine Pfleger Schock, 70, widow of Roland Henry Schock, died Tuesday, June 25, 2019, at her home.

Born March 1, 1949, in Norristown, Pennsylvania, she was a daughter of the late Richard Newton Pfleger and the late Vera Louise Moyer Pfleger. She was a retired legal secretary and she was blessed to be a part of nurturing Mackenzie, Mason and Madison Ham. She was an avid reader who enjoyed gardening and creating in the kitchen.

South Carolina official say state is facing EMT shortage

tatewide research shows South Carolina is struggling to attract and retain emergency medical service workers.

Officials from the South Carolina EMS Association and the Office of Healthcare Workforce say some training programs are severely under-enrolled, with up to 75 percent of their seats vacant.

In addition, they say those that do graduate are only staying in the field for about eight years. The Greenville News reports factors such as low pay, long hours and poor working conditions could be to blame.

Manning, SC – Barbara Ann Frierson James, 60, widow of Donald James, died Thursday, June 20, 2019 at Prisma Health Tuomey, Sumter, SC. She was born February 23, 1959 in Manning, SC, a daughter of the late Willie James Frierson and Dora Mae Fulton Frierson.

Funeral services for Mrs.James will be held 2:00PM Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, 105 Dinkins Street, Manning, SC. Burial will follow in St. Matthews Cemetery, Manning, SC.

The family is receiving friends at the residence, 30 West End Street, Manning, SC.
