Wateree Community Actions Agency Inc. receives $250,000

Senator Kevin Johnson presented a check in the amount of $250,000 to Wateree Community Actions Agency Inc. This funding was requested by Senator Johnson  in the state budget to help WCAI provide services to the less fortunate, unemployed and working poor. Some of the services that they provide lie in the area of housing, weatherization, rental assistance and help with utility bills.

James Doyle “Butch” Treaster, 60, husband of Cynthia Tidwell Treaster, died Saturday, June 8, 2019, at his home.

Born July 22, 1958, in Sumter, he was a son of Alice McLeod Martin and the late Stanley Lee Treaster. He was a US Army veteran, a member of the Army National Guard and Lakewood Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of Manning; his mother of Sumter; a son, Danny Treaster of Florence; two brothers, Stanley Treaster (Sandy) of Sumter and Don Treaster of Manning; four granddaughters; and two stepsons, Jason Barfield (June) of Virginia and Timothy Barfield of Manning.… Read the rest

William (Bill) F Hunter, age 84, husband of Theresa Hunter, died June 8that his home in Manning, South Carolina.

He was born June 21, 1934, in Amber Terrace, New Jersey. He was formerly a resident of Sewell, Harrisonville and Williamstown NJ. Bill was a veteran and Honorably Discharged from the Army after serving during the of the Korean Conflict/Peace Era.

Chief Richbourg retires from Clarendon County Fire Department

SCSFA Past President Chief Frances Richbourg  retired from Clarendon County Fire Department. During retirement reception Chief Richbourg was honored with an  Order of the Palmetto, South Carolina’s highest civilian honor. Chief Richbourg was recognized by Senator Kevin Johnson, Clarendon County & SC State Firefighters’ Assoication.

The graduating class of 2019 of Manning High School held their commencement exercises on Saturday. Over 170 seniors received their high school diploma.


Clarendon County Council on Aging receives $40,000 grant

Senator Kevin Johnson presented a check for $40,000 to the Clarendon County Council on Aging at their office. Senator Johnson says that this money was factored into the budget for the current 2018-19 fiscal year. He also said that he was glad that he is in a position to help such a worthy cause that provides superior services to the senior citizens of Clarendon County.


City of Manning Farmer’s Market postponed due to weather.

Columbia -On Tuesday, May 28, 2019, Perry Glen Murray, husband of Cynthia Davis-Murray, died at Prisma Health Richland.
Born on June 9, 1957, in Manning, he was a son of the late James and Josphine Gibson Murray.
A service celebrating his life will take place on Saturday, June 8, 2019, at 1:00pm from the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 14362 Raccoon Rd., Bloomville Community of Manning where the Pastor, Rev. In the blink of an eye, our lives can change drastically with little to no notice at all. Unfortunately, the results can seem to be devastating with little hope of a good outcome. But instead of giving up, some people will put all of their energy towards the glimmer of hope that they can recover from the ordeal and defy all odds. Camp Happy Days 2019 to be held June 30-July 6

Camp Bob Cooper will soon be buzzing with the sounds of children enjoying summer camp on the shores of Lake Marion. Camp Happy Days is an annual event that is solely for children ages 4 to 16 diagnosed with cancer, along with their siblings. Siblings of children that passed away due to cancer are also invited to come and enjoy the fun experience.

Tynekqua T. Jackson makes Deans List

More than 2,000 Coastal Carolina University students were named to the Dean’s List for the Spring 2019 semester. That’s nearly 20 percent of the student body with a grade point average between 3.5-3.99 for the spring semester.

Of the dean’s list recipients, 616 are freshmen, 444 are sophomores, 477 are juniors and 522 are seniors. An additional 774 students were named to the President’s List for achieving a 4.0 GPA during the spring semester.

SUMMERTON – Harriet Laverne Lee Pate, 86, died Thursday, June 06, 2019, at Lake Marion Nursing Facility.

Born October 17, 1932, in Manning, she was a daughter of the late Jacob Wilbur Lee and the late Sylvia Snyder Lee Cartledge. She was a member of Manning First Baptist Church.
