At J.C. Britton park, there are many types of sports available for the public to enjoy. Basketball, baseball, softball and soccer are very popular. But last fall, a new sport was brought to the field.

A group of ladies became interested in possibly starting a league for ladies to play kickball. They contacted LeBon Joye, who is Recreation Director for Clarendon County. Joye researched the sport and found a website for World Kickball Association. Using their rules, Joye set up all of the requirements and posted on social media to see if there was an interest. The league was born with 6 various teams to sign up.

Joye said that there are two seasons that will be held. One in the fall months of the year, and one that just recently started in the spring. Games are generally played in 30 to 45 minutes. The teams consist of a range of 14 to 17 ladies. Each team designates who is allowed to be a part of their team.

The current spring league consists of 5 teams. The teams names are Sidekicks, Players of Hope, Pitch Please, Shear Perfection, and 2 Legit 2 Kick. Lisa Rivera, a member of Shear Perfection, says that playing kickball has been a great stress reliever for her and the other players.

“We finally have something available designed specifically for the ladies,” said Rivera. “Everyone has a lot of fun, but it is very competitive.”

Joye also said that he has been approached by parents to possibly start another kickball league for children. He is currently researching it and will make a final decision very soon.
