Honeycutt to Lead Access to Justice Commission

COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Access to Justice Commission has selected Hannah C. Honeycutt to serve as its new Executive Director. Honeycutt will lead the Commission in its mission to address barriers to legal representation in South Carolina.
Honneycutt is a 2007 graduate of Wagner College in New York with a Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude, in English and Spanish, and a 2013 graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law. McLeod Health Physicians and Hospitals Recognized for Excellence in Healthcare

McLeod Health physicians and hospitals were recently recognized for providing excellence in healthcare by national healthcare research leader Professional Research Consultants, Inc. (PRC).

Dr. M. Adnan Alsaka ,a McLeod Nephrologist, was recognized as a Top Performer for Overall Quality of Physician Care. Dr. Alsaka is ranked at or above the 100th percentile which equates to one of the highest scoring physicians in the nation. Former police chief scheduled for a change of plea hearing

Manning’s former police chief, Blair Shaffer, is scheduled to appear in court July 11 in Charleston for a change of plea hearing. Shaffer initially pled not guilty to several charges by Federal Bureau of Investigations in January of this year after an investigation was conducted concerning money that was allegedly in Shaffer’s possession while he was police chief of Manning PD.

Shaffer first came under scrutiny when his employment was terminated July 2018 by the City of Manning. Manning Mayor Julia Nelson announced Shaffer’s termination as Manning’s police chief, citing the “safety of our residents, guests and community.” Several issues Read the rest

Santee Cooper Electric Company have had multiple reports of a caller claiming Santee Cooper will shut off power to their members if the bill is not paid by calling a 1-800 number. Santee Electric will not call you for payment. Please report all suspicious phone calls such as this.


St. Peters Masonic Lodge indoor garage sale

CCTC student places at Welding Skills Competition

Three CCTC welding students competed in the South Carolina Technical System’s 37th Annual Welding Skills Competition which was held April 18 and 19 at Horry Georgetown Technical College. Ten South Carolina technical colleges competed in six different categories. The 10 technical colleges that competed were Central Carolina Technical College, Piedmont Technical College, Midlands Technical College, Tri-County Technical College, Spartanburg Community College, Florence Darlington Technical College, Greenville Technical College, Horry Georgetown Technical College, York Technical College, and Aiken Technical College.

The Rotary Club of Manning awarded scholarships to four local students last Wednesday at Porter Jack’s restaurant during their meeting. Each recipient was selected based on their performance in school and in the community.The selection committee was comprised of members of the Rotary Club of Manning.

Grace “Marie” Joyner will attend Clemson University in the fall. Her studies will focus on Biological Sciences, followed by graduate school to pursue her doctorate in Physical Therapy.
