In Clarendon County, a section of Interstate 95 will be named after a member of the law enforcement family. Senator Kevin L Johnson introduced the resolution to commemorate the road in the memory of Randolph L. (Randy) Garrett. Garrett died August 2018 after an extended illness. “I was happy to have the opportunity to introduce the resolution to bestow this honor on behalf of Randy Garrett,” said Johnson. “ Randy was an outstanding law enforcement officer and he served our community with dignity for several years. He was a good man and was very well respected by his peers. It is only fitting that a portion of I-95 be named in his honor.” Garrett served for two terms as sheriff of the Clarendon County Sheriff's Office. He also was the police chief for Manning City Police Department prior to becoming sheriff. Garrett served in law enforcement for a total of over 30 years. His late wife Barbara and his daughter Brittany were also involved in public safety as telecommunication officers for various counties within South Carolina.The section of the interstate is located in Clarendon County, starting at the 102 mile marker and extending to the 119 mile marker. When Garrett was actively patrolling the interstate many years ago, this section was his favorite area to work in.Plans are underway in the near future and will be announced to hold a dedication ceremony and post signs to commemorate Garrett.
