Manning Monarchs Varsity Can't Catch Up To Academic Magnet

The Monarchs of Manning High watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 3-0 loss to Academic Magnet on Thursday. Academic Magnet took the lead on a single in the first inning. The pitching was strong on both sides. Academic Magnet pitchers struck out 15, while the Monarchs sat down five. Academic Magnet got on the board in the first inning. Stephan Holderness singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run. One bright spot for the Monarchs varsity baseball team was a single by Jack Owens in the second inning. Ethan Fewell got the win for Academic Magnet. He lasted seven innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out 15 and walking one. Sandy Johnson took the loss for the Monarchs. He lasted six innings, allowing six hits and three runs while striking out five and walking one. Owens led Manning with one hit in three at bats. Academic Magnet collected six hits on the day. Holderness and Max Windom each racked up multiple hits for Academic Magnet.
