Helen W. Lawson, 89, died Monday, April 8, 2019, at the home of her goddaughter, surrounded by those who love her most.

Born Feb. 10, 1930, in Whitmire, she was a daughter of the late Jack H. and Goldie R. Wilson. She retired from Clarendon County with 30 years of service working in the court and later in mapping. She was a member of Summerton Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher.

She is survived by a special goddaughter, Cheri S. Hagood of Sumter; along with nieces and nephews.

She was the last of her immediate family, being predeceased by her loving spouse of 60 years, Clarence J. Lawson; three brothers, Joseph W. Wilson, Jackie H. Wilson and Robert S. Wilson; and two sisters, Dorothy W. Yarborough and Lois W. Miller.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Summerton Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Ashba and the Rev. Billy Carlisle officiating.

The family will receive friends in the Tom Mellette Fellowship Hall following the service.

The family would like to thank Ethel Muldrow and Edith Kelly from Carolina Caregivers with an extra special thanks to Betty Durant who spent more than 50 hours a week providing optimal care with the greatest of love and compassion. The family would also like to thank MSA Hospice and Dr. Mayes DuBose for the care given during her illness.
