Ernest Hilton, 59, husband of Emma Blanding Hilton died Tuesday, March 19, 2019, at McLeod Health Clarendon in Manning.
Born Nov. 14, 1959, in the Jordan community of Clarendon County, he was a son of Naomi Pearson Hilton and the late James Hilton.
Funeral services for Mr. Hilton will be held 2 p.m Sunday, March 24, 2019, at Hayes F. Samuels Sr. Memorial Chapel in Manning.
The family is receiving friends at the home, 1089 Sportsman Drive in Manning.
Services have been entrusted to Samuels Funeral Home of Manning.

A 72-year-old New Jersey man was killed Friday morning on Interstate 95 near the 105 southboud mile-marker, according to Clarendon County Coroner Bucky Mock.
“Kenneth Takacs died at the scene from multiple blunt force trauma around 10:40 a.m.,” Mock said. “Mr. Takacs was wearing a seatbelt.”

The Scott’s Branch High Alumni Association Inc. Hosted its 2019 Awards and Scholarship Gala on Saturday at the Clarendon School District 1 Community Resource Center.
The gala served as an awards ceremony to acknowledge students, as well as leaders in the community, for their honorable achievements. Big DM 101.3 FM Radio and TV personality Jeffrey L. Lampkin was the master of ceremony. Shenay Turner, the 2009 scholarship recipient, was the keynote speaker.

PINEWOOD – Raymond Holland, 68, husband of Ella Gooden Holland, died Saturday, March 16, 2019, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital of Sumter. Born Aug 20, 1950, in Pinewood, he was a son of the late Lee Boston and Amanda Benbow Holland.
Funeral services for Mr. Holland will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2019, at New Hope UME Church, 19022 Panola Road in Pinewood. Burial will follow in the Manning Cemetery in Pinewood.

Born Nov. 17, 1951, in Summerton, she was a daughter of the late Nelson Ridgill and Frances Ragin.

The National Weather Service out of Columbia has issued a Special weather Statement effective through 7 p.m.. Friday.
The Fire Danger Statement predicts that minimum relative humidity values will fall to about 23 percent this afternoon, and that westerly winds will gust about 25 mph. This combination plus low fuel moisture values will result in increased fire danger this afternoon into this evening.

The Laurence Manning Academy varsity baseball team stole the lead late in the game Wednesday against Manning High School to get to a 9-3 victory. The game was tied at 2, with LMA batting in the bottom of the sixth when Seth Stamps drew a walk, scoring one run.
LMA secured the victory thanks to seven runs in the sixth inning. The offensive firepower by LMA was led by Stamps, Britton Morris, Jake Jordan, and J.T. Stanley, all knocking in runs in the inning.

Born July 18, 1945 in the Potato Creek section of Clarendon County, a son of the late Deacon Pinkney Hilton and Emma Felder Hilton.
