Deacon Lawrence Hilton, 73, husband of Jannette Miller Hilton, died Saturday, March 16, 2019, at his home.

Born July 18, 1945 in the Potato Creek section of Clarendon County, a son of the late Deacon Pinkney Hilton and Emma Felder Hilton.

He attended Clarendon School District 1 schools and graduated from Scott's Branch High School in Summerton. He later served in the U.S. Army. After his honorable discharge, he attended Sumter Technical College in Sumter.

Lawrence was raised in a Christian and loving home. At an early age, he joined Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and church treasurer.

He was employed by Federal Mogul Corp, in Summerton, where he retired after 34 years of service. Most recently, he was employed by RBS Transportation of Summerton.

Lawrence met Jannette Miller, the love of his life, and they were joined in holy matrimony on April 20, 1974. This marriage was blessed with three beautiful girls in their loving and Christian home.

He was a peaceful, loving, humble and hardworking man. He loved serving the Lord, his family and working in his garden.

His passing has left a void for those whom loved and cherished him, mostly his wife and loving children.

His memory will forever be cherished by his loving wife, Jannette M. Hilton of the home; three devoted daughters, Stephanie Hilton of Columbia, Crystal Hilton of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Tanya (Jonathan) Sloan of Wood Bridge, Virginia; three caring grandchildren, Sierra Hilton of Columbia, and Ella Sloan and Jeshua Sloan, both of Wood Bridge; two sisters, Naomi Hilton of Baltimore, Maryland, and Fannie Hammett of Summerton; eight sisters-in-law; seven brothers-in-law; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral serveries for Deacon Hilton will be held 1 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2019, at Taw Caw Missionary Baptist Church, 1130 Granby Lane in Summerton, with the Rev. Dr. William T. Johnson, pastor, presiding. The Rev. David Lawson will serve as eulogist, assisted by Minister Jonathan Sloan, the Rev. Harvey Hammett and the Rev. Virgil Hammett.

Burial will follow in the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church cemetery, 4319 Rowe Drive in Summerton.

The family is receiving friends at the home, 1093 Moorer St. in Manning.

Services have been entrusted to Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.
