SUMTER, SC – Kenny Cetera, brother of iconic Chicago lead singer Peter Cetera, is bringing his hand-clapping, toe-tapping Chicago Experience show to the Sumter Opera House as part of this season’s Main Stage Series on March 15 at 7:30 pm.
Chicago actually formed in the late 1960s, but it was during the 1970s when the group skyrocketed to worldwide fame following hits such as "If You Leave Me Now," which was written by Peter Cetera.
In 1983, the group recruited Kenny to sing background vocals in the studio, on its epic Chicago 17 record, still the group's greatest selling album to date at 6X platinum.
Because of the natural blend with his brother, Kenny joined on four songs: the No. 1 hit, "You're The Inspiration," the MTV classic, "Stay The Night," a third single, "Along Comes A Woman" and "Prima Donna." He also toured with the band for a number of years, joining his brother on stage.
The band is credited with creating a new sound by combining the horns previously made famous by rhythm and blues artists with a rock sound that had formerly included mainly only guitars and drums. And fans responded by buying everything the band released and filling stadiums and other venues where it performed.
Cetera has a huge following and will share experiences that most fans will be hearing for the first time. Cultural Manager Seth Reimer commented, “This is a show that fans of all ages can enjoy. This is not a tribute bate, this is a Cetera led Chicago band that knows how to bring that unforgettable experience.”
Kenny will showcase his undying passion for both his own material and that made famous by brother, Peter, and the band. Fans will surely recognize the songs made famous around the world and along with that distinctive Cetera voice.
He has surrounded himself with world-class musicians who share their appreciation for this music to bring an infectious excitement to an all.
