East Clarendon coach in early morning wreck

East Clarendon High School boys’ basketball coach Seneca Barron, along with his wife and son, was involved in a car wreck in Florence Wednesday morning at around 7:15 a.m. According to South Carolina Highway Patrol Cpl. Sonny Collins, a 2018 Ford Explorer was traveling east on Burnt Branch Road. Barron and his family were in a 2006 Chrysler going south on Salem Road, on the way to school. “It looks like the Explorer disregarded the stop sign and struck the Chrysler,” said Collins. Barron and one of his passengers were airlifted from the scene. Baron was at McLeod Regional Medical Center as of Wednesday afternoon. His wife, who works at the school as athletic secretary and cheerleading coach, and his son were both released from hospitals on Wednesday. EMS took the driver of the Explorer to a local hospital. “They were very blessed,” said East Clarendon Athletic Director Scott Cook. “The school came together this morning and prayed for him and his family, and they were very fortunate. They’d be the first to tell you, but they really are.” A multi-disciplinary accident investigation team (MAIT) is still investigating.
