Palmetto Health USC Medical Group hosted a ribbon cutting event at Palmetto Health USC Family Medicine in Turbeville on February 21. Although the business opened its doors a few weeks ago, it is officially announcing its presence to Clarendon County, welcoming visitors and new patients alike. “It’s great to be here. This is an exciting day for Palmetto Health-USC Medical Group and for Turbeville,” said Kevin Boggs, COO for Palmetto Health-USC Medical Group. “We have an opportunity to deliver great, compassionate care and to continue the legacy that is Dr. Smith. We’re so excited about that.” Dr. Kate E. Smith, who has practiced in the community for many years, will be the primary physician, and Logan Simms will serve as nurse practitioner. The practice offers wellness exams, care for acute illnesses and chronic conditions and general health services to the Turbeville area. Turbeville Mayor Dwayne Howell is pleased to have the new clinic in Turbeville, as he sees it as a way to keep the town alive, along with good schools and a strong business association. “Dr. Kate’s business has been vital to us,” said Howell. “She has been here for us for 32 years. Without her, I don’t know what we’d do. Without her and this facility, this town would not be what it is today.” Smith extended her welcome to everyone who attended, and she thanked Palmetto for joining with her to provide the best healthcare possible. “We are proud of what we have achieved. We intend to deliver the care we are known for and have always given,” said Smith. “We hope to provide the same quality care we have had all along well into the future.” Tonya Parcell, administrative director for Family Medicine, states they are excited to partner with Smith and with the clinic. “That’s what our medical group and Dr. Smith and her team are all about: putting the patient first, bringing compassionate care and joy to what we do every day,” said Parcell. “Every time I’ve met , that’s what shines through.” The opening of the Turbeville practice is part of a wider effort by the Medical Group to extend its expertise into the Midlands rural communities, many which previously were underserved. The practice will be open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Scheduled appointments are recommended.
