Rock Hill’s India Hook Elementary School’s staff re-routed the morning traffic so that bus riders, walkers, and car riders could walk together from the nearby neighborhood in their Pirate Parade. The Rock Hill Police Department directed traffic, while parents and staff volunteered to supervise the event. Some students said they want to do it everyday.
Manning firefighters responded to a housefire on Richburg Street at 2:48 on Monday. Homeowners Quincy Jackson and Sarah Baker had discovered a fire in a room used primarily for storage. A faulty power strip, which was plugged into the wall, sparked and caused a nearby laundry pile to ignite.
"When we got there, the room was fully involved," said Manning Fire Chief Mitch McElveen.
The fire did not spread to other rooms, according to McElveen, but there was minor smoke damage to the kitchen area.
Fortunately, the stored items in the room were the only items lost. All members of the household were safe and no injuries were reported. The residents will not have to vacate the home while repairs are made.
McElveen states he estimates the damage around $7,000.
