4 MAIN receives arts grant

Posted
by Cedric Lequeur The Town of Summerton 4 MAIN has been awarded a $750 grant by the South Carolina Arts Commission for the 2019 fiscal year. This award helps bring together Summerton’s 4 MAIN and the arts programs at Scott’s Branch Middle/High School, Harvest Community School and Manning High School to paint four ceramic street murals for downtown Summerton. The painting of the street murals was scheduled as a community event in October 2018, but due to inclement weather conditions, then and now, the murals are being painted indoors on exterior ceramic tiles. These tiles will be installed on private property near Main Street and South Church Street and directly in front of Town Hall. A free, outdoor public installation celebration is being planned for Spring 2019. Several local businesses, organizations and individuals are helping 4 MAIN meet its obligation of matching the Arts Commission grant with local dollars. Some of those supporting the grant include Clarendon County Chamber of Commerce, Summerton Lions Club, Dr. Wayne Morris DVM, First Citizens Bank, Dixie Auto Parts, Inc., Clarendon Auto Parts, Inc., Sumter Packaging Corporation, John C. Land III, Thomas Harvin and Carolina Pantry. Local residents can see how the Arts Commission grant and local funds are benefiting Summerton’s 4 MAIN by visiting us at www.townofsummerton.com.
