C.D. Rhodes, a Manning native and public finance attorney with Pope Flynn, a law firm concentrating in public finance and governmental law, was appointed chair of the Historic Columbia Foundation Advisory Council on January 7. Founded in 1961, the Foundation is "dedicated to preserving Columbia and Richland County’s historic and cultural heritage." It also serves as the steward of six historic Columbia properties, as well as of 14 acres of landscapes and gardens. The Advisory Council, among other duties, recruits members, nurtures leaders, assists in fundraising, and "represents the interests of Historic Columbia and its programs to the community and relates the interests of our community to Historic Columbia." "I have respected Historic Columbia's vision and advocacy for preserving Columbia’s historic and cultural heritage for many years," said Rhodes. "In the past three years of serving on the Advisory Council, I have seen first-hand just how much work goes into Historic Columbia’s advocacy efforts. I am honored to be able to offer to Historic Columbia the skills and experience I've gained in my career in public finance and government law." "Our firm has been singularly focused and committed to serving communities throughout the Carolinas," said Joe Lucas, managing partner of the firm. "We are very pleased that C.D. will be sharing his leadership and organizational skills with Historic Columbia. They are fortunate to have him!" Rhodes received his JD from the University of South Carolina School of Law; he also holds a Master's degree in Public Administration from the University of South Carolina and a BA in Historic Preservation and Community Planning from the College of Charleston. Rhodes is a 2014 graduate of The South Carolina Economic Development Institute and a 2017 graduate of Leadership Columbia.
