Laurence Manning Academy competed against Porter-Gaud, Heathwood Hall and Cardinal Newman High School on Monday night, taking home a win for the boys’ team at the South Carolina Independent School Association event. Coached by Jay Atkins, the team won by one point, earning their fourth Team State Championship in a row. The team was down by six points with one shot left. Seth Stamps stepped up and brought home the win at the last moment. “I just about had a heart attack,” said Atkins. LMA brought home a trophy and gold medals, and they will design and order championship rings for each player. However, the rings won’t arrive until August. Although there are no higher team tournaments, February 11 brings the Bowling Individual State Championship, and Stamps, as well as Harley Sandifer and James Sandifer, will compete.
