Actor and award-winning filmmaker Robert X. Golphin has released three new film and digital television projects. In #ThatMoment, an experimental one-minute anthology series, Golphin portrays multiple characters in a variety of settings. Topics explored includes self-love, quality of life and drug addiction. “I was inspired to create this project by the hashtag activism and daily affirmations we see and post every day on social media,” said Golphin. “People watching should consider this psychological in a sense. My hope is that they relate to the themes, if not the particular scenarios.” Golphin lived with his grandmother, Henrietta Bennett of Manning, during his freshman year at Morris College, and he frequently visits her and scores of other local relatives. Golphin’s film/tv acting credits includes The Great Debaters, Remember The Daze, HBO’s The Wire and The Underground Kings. Among his directorial efforts is the upcoming feature length comedy Freshman Friday, shot on location in Raleigh, North Carolina. The film stars NAACP Theatre Award winner Jerrel O’Neal and actor/singer Brian McKnight Jr., son of R&B icon Brian McKnight and International Recording Artist Julie McKnight. Golphin’s newly released short documentary A Pure Moment With Julian Thomas was a family affair. Filmed last December in Manning, the project features his cousin and ADDY award-winning photographer Julian Thomas, who shares his creative process as an artist and belief that art can be found in unexpected places. Viewers say the film is “beautifully crafted,” has “seamless editing and perfect sound” and hits the “nail on the head when surrounding yourself around other people in the same craft.” A second short documentary, A Pure Moment With Chris Mann, features lauded film and television actor Christopher Mann, who takes viewers on an introspective and emotional journey into his life as a sketch artist. Viewers call it “a creative beauty,” “a calm piece” and one that “gives being, outlets and escapes from the deafening norms of society.” Mann’s recent works include the 2019 Sundance Film Festival selections Luce and What Death Leaves Behind. Golphin is currently in development on several projects and hopes to produce some of them in Manning in the near future. “Until shooting here in December, I never realized how cinematic Manning is,” Golphin said. “But I’ve always recognized its beauty. And clearly Hollywood has, too. The serial killer drama Mr. Mercedes filmed here last year. My dream has always been to build my own movie studio here. I believe one should speak things into existence. So I’ll keep speaking until one day it’s reality.” A Pure Moment and #ThatMoment are playing now at: https://www.robertxgolphin.com/screeningroom.
