The Scott’s Branch middle school boys basketball team won the Upper Pee Dee Conference championship against Lee Central Middle School in Bishopville on Monday night, with a final score of 52-35. The seven-member team, coached by Reginal Davis, brought home the first Upper Pee Dee championship won by any school in this area in six years. Leading the scoring for Scott’s Branch was Randy Gibson with 23 points. Torry Ragin added nine points, Tyler Kind added eight, Jordan Kind brought in six points and Jimmy Weeks and Juan Dozier put up three points each. Javier Hill brought down three rebounds. The three-foot trophy is temporarily on the front counter at Scott’s Branch, allowing students and guests to enjoy it, although it will be moved to a permanent spot at a later time. At the event, Davis was also named Upper Pee Dee Middle School Coach of the Year for middle school boys basketball. “It was a great testimony to overcoming adversity for those seven young men to excel at basketball and show their courage,” said Scott’s Branch Athletic Director Brian Smith. “They played a phenomenal game, and the game was never in doubt. They got out to a big lead at the beginning and held on the entire game. We’re certainly proud of them.”
