Main Street Manning’s Matchless Volunteer Fair

Main Street Manning is hosting a Matchless Volunteer Fair from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday night, January 29, at the McLeod Health Medical Plaza Clarendon. “We’re trying to match up volunteer organizations and people who want to get involved but don’t know how,” said Carrie Trebil, Director of Tourism and Community Development for the City of Manning. “It’s kind of like volunteer dating.” Clarendon County used to have an interagency council that kept track of all volunteer organizations and maintained accurate contact information for each one. However, this, too, was a volunteer position, and Trebil states no one has stepped forward willing to volunteer in this manner. “People may not be aware of the ways they can volunteer or the number of organizations we have in Clarendon County,” said Trebil. “It’s often very difficult to get contact information for some of these organizations.” This year, Main Street Manning is not limiting the event to Manning organizations. All of Clarendon County has been included. Participating organizations include not only Main Street Manning, but also Clarendon County Chamber of Commerce, McLeod Health Clarendon, Clarendon County Clemson Extension, Optimist Club Clarendon, Lions Club, 1865 Reading Academy, Jordan Crossroads Ministry Center which maintains the local women’s shelter, Clarendon County Neighborhood Network, Clarendon County Fire Department, Clarendon County Pilot Club, Paxville CDC, Clarendon School District 2, A Second Chance Animal Shelter, The American Red Cross, the Clarendon County Guardian Ad Litem program, Clarendon County Christian Learning Center, Sexual Trauma Services and United Way. Each organization will have a booth set up at the Medical Plaza. Those who attend may visit booths and speak to representatives of the organizations, take home verbal and printed information and obtain contact information for those organizations which interest them. Some organizations will have application processes, although some may allow sign-ups at the booth on the night of the event. If you are interested in volunteering in Clarendon County, join Main Street Manning at the Matchless Volunteer Fair to find the right organization.
