A second chance for Christmas

Bring the family and come see Santa from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on December 8 at Quality Shipping & Printing on W. Keitt Street in Manning, next to the post office. While you’re there, visit with dogs, cats, puppies and kittens from A Second Chance Animal Shelter. “It’s something new for us this year,” said Ann Little, vice president of the Animal Shelter Board. The shelter has never held an off-site adoption event before, and Little is hopeful the event will find homes for many of the animals, giving them a real second chance for Christmas. Normally, the shelter takes a few days to assess prospective owners. However, during this event, all paperwork and forms will be available, and prospective owners will be assessed at the time of application, allowing for same-day adoptions. Cats and kittens are still on special for $25, and dogs will be at the normal rate of $125. “We’re not allowed to adopt an animal out until it has been spayed or neutered,” said Little, who assured all of the animals will already be spayed or neutered as well as fully vetted, and all age-appropriate shots will have been given prior to the event. To make it a fun event for the whole family, Santa will also be present to take pictures with children and pets alike. Pictures will be $10, and everyone is invited to come meet the kitties and doggies, meet Santa and possibly “give the gift of a furever home this holiday season.”
