Tickets can be purchased from The Clarendon County Chamber of Commerce, Gibbons & Company, CPA, PA, or see any Junior Chamber member. 100% of the proceeds are invested right back into Clarendon County and the Junior Chamber’s community projects.

Cookout celebrates back-to-back football championships

Manning Junior High ended season with 8-0, winning their conference championship for the second year in a row under the guidance of Coach Brian Joyner.

To help the players celebrate, Chris and Angela Weeks gathered the support of other football parents and have planned a cookout for the team and the cheerleading squad. The Weeks’ son, Amary’on Kennedy, played running back, safety and corner under #4. Kennedy plans to play when he moves up to Manning High School next year.

“He has a passion for the game,” said Angela Weeks.

Hodges and Seitz honored as SCISA Co-Administrative Assistant of the Year

Clarendon Hall released the following information.

On Thursday, November 1, Clarendon Hall’s Dawn Hodges and Sonya Seitz received the SCISA (South Carolina Independent School Association) Co-Administrative Assistant of the Year Award. This is the first time two honorees were named. They were presented the award by SCISA Executive Director Dr. Spencer Jordan at the Fall Headmaster’s Conference held at The Stables at The Inn at the Crossroads in Lake City.

Clarendon County hosts Youth Manufacturing Expo

Clarendon County eighth graders will learn about manufacturing opportunities in the county at the Youth Manufacturing Expo on Friday, November 9. Held at the FE Dubose campus, the event was a coordinated effort between the Clarendon County Development Board, the Clarendon County Chamber of Commerce, Clarendon County Adult Education, Central Carolina Technical College and the public and private schools within Clarendon County.

November has pushed aside the youthful playfulness of Halloween, bringing a more introspective aspect to our fall and winter holiday triad. As we move toward Thanksgiving, we become more family-focused, reaching out to long-held connections and traditions.

Thanksgiving arose out of harsh conditions and a pact between the Wampanoag people and the English to assist and protect one another. That first harvest feast in fall eventually blended with a celebration of thanks for rains after a drought, and Thanksgiving was born.

District Teacher of the Year at Manning High

Elizabeth McDonald was named Teacher of the Year at Manning High School for 2018-2019 school year and Clarendon School District Two Teacher of the Year for 2018-2019.

McDonald was born and raised in Seneca and graduated from Seneca High School. She later attended Clemson University to earn a bachelor’s degree in social studies education; Anderson University, where she earned her master’s degree in Education; and University of South Carolina to earn her master’s degree in educational administration. She is currently attending Clemson to obtain an ESOL certification, which will be completed in December.

City to use $500K grant to replace sewer lines

The city of Manning got a shot in the arm Thursday after Rural Infrastructure notified officials of a $500,000 grant award that will allow for the replacement of existing and aged sewer lines.
Manning Mayor Julia Nelson said the main replacement will be “the main trunk line” that serves Clarendon County Industrial Park.
“This is a clay pipe that was installed about 45 years ago,” said Nelson. “This line serves all of the industries that currently operate in the (Industrial) Park, as well as providing sewer service to Summerton when needed.”

First graders vote absentee

Mrs. Epps’ First Grade Eagles took pat in the Absentee Voting election process on Monday. Te students learned that they had to be 18 years old to vote and must have a valid id to vote. The students facilitated their own voting stations and did a wonderful job. It was an amazing, life-long learning experience for them.

Graham-White Engagement Announcement

Mr. and Mrs. Tad Graham of Manning announce the engagement of their daughter, Haley Lynne Graham, also of Manning, to Zachary Isaac White of Sumter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rocky White, also of Sumter.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Geddings of Manning and Mrs. Mary Graham and the late Charles Graham of Manning. She graduated from Laurence Manning Academy in 2011 and earned an associate’s degree and a certificate in surgical technology from Central Carolina.

Manning man dead after shooting incident

A Clarendon County man is dead after a shooting incident at a Paxville Highway home about 9:20 p.m. Tuesday.
Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched about that same time to a home in the 8800 block of Paxville Highway after 911 operators reported a shooting. Charles Lee Cummings was hit twice in the chest and shoulder area. He later died as a result of his injuries, according to reports.
