FINAL: Scott’s Branch varsity boys basketball

The Varsity Boy’s basketball team travel to take on the Whirlwinds of Timmonsville. The Eagles put up a hard fight. However, it wasn’t enough. The boys fall short 66-73 on Tuesday night. Leading the Eagles were Antayuvis Stukes with 15 points and 10 boards, Nyquan Lee with 13 points and four steals, C.J. Hickman with 10 points and 10 boards and Joakeen Stevens with 9 points and 10 boards. The Eagles fall to 0-2 on this young season. The Eagles will be back in action Thursday at Home, Hosting The Saints of Clarendon Hall Tip-Off at 6 p.m.


OBITUARY: Norman Lee Corbett

Corbett, Norman Lee Obit Photo.jpgNorman Lee Corbett, 83, husband of Teresa Annette Duke Corbett, died Monday, November 26, 2018, at Palmetto Health Tuomey.

Born August 25, 1935, in Manning, he was a son of the late Julian Furman Corbett and the late Barbara Broadway Corbett. He was a US Air Force veteran and a farmer.

He is survived by his wife of Pinewood; two sons, Carl Travis Corbett (Keleigh) of Columbia and Brian Matthew Corbett of Pinewood; two daughters, Margaret Corbett Bartlette of Pinewood and Mary Corbett Carrigan (Lawrence) of Sumter; a sister, Clara Corbett Macfarlane of Paoli, Pennsylvania; and five grandchildren, Molly Corbett, … Read the rest


FINAL: LMA Varsity Girls Basketball

The LMA Varsity girls basketball team defeated Conway Christian 54-23 on Tuesday night at home.

Leading the way for the Swampcats was Lexi Bennett with 17 points. Breanna Boykin scored 10, Katherine Burns 8, Audrey Bennett 6, Rollin Barwick 5, and Elizabeth Hicks, Laura Helen Johnson, Carrie Rickembaker and Vivian Bryant all added 2 points.

The next game is on Thursday at Kings Academy.


LMA Athlete signs with Radford University

Laurence Manning Academy senior Andrew Boyd accepted a scholarship on November 14 to play baseball for Radford University in Virginia under Coach Joe Raccuia, signing the papers in front of friends and family.

Although Boyd lives in Kingstree, the family chose Laurence Manning, as it’s a bigger school with a strong baseball program. During his time at Laurence Manning, Boyd has excelled not only in athletics but also in academics, and he is a member of the National Honors Society.

OBITUARY: James Ernest “Ernie” Ard

James Ernest “Ernie” Ard age 76, passed away November 27, 2018 at his home, after an illness.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years and high school sweetheart, Linda McGee Ard, of Olanta and one son, James E. Ard “J. E.” Jr., also of Olanta. He was the son of Ernest Adel Ard and Margaret Highsmith Ard. He was voted the “Most Athletic” by the Olanta High School Class of 1962 and also had an outstanding pitching record on the baseball team. Scott’s Branch Varsity Boys’ basketball team dropped their season opener against North High School 63-66 late in the 4th quarter.

Leading the Eagles was Savior Seberry with a Double Double 16 points and 10 rebounds. Next in scoring was Antayuvis Stukes with 10 points and 8 boards. The Eagles will travel to Timmonsville today; tip-off will be at 5 p.m.

FINAL: Manning Junior High Boys and Girls

The Manning Junior High girls and boys teams both won tonight over Ebenezer Middle. For the girls, Taylor Gourdine scored 17 points and Samiya Witherspoon scored 16 points, and the game ended with a winning score of 37-33. For the boys, Justin Daniels and Jeh’ Hilton both scored 11 points each, ending with a winning score of 63-30.

Edna Margaret Eagerton, 62, died Friday, November 23, 2018, at Palmetto Health Richland.

Born February 23, 1956, in Sumter, she was a daughter of Robert Samuel Eagerton and the late Edna Mae Brunson Eagerton. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the Confederacy, Clarendon County Historical Society, Summerton Fire Department and Summerton United Methodist Church.

Police Update

The Manning Police Department has released the following information.

On November 23, 2018, Manning PD responded to a call near Mill and Keitt Street regarding a male subject who may have tried to enter a vehicle occupied by a female while stopped at a stop sign. A photograph of the subject was posted on social media. Following the reported incident, the alleged male subject was located and interviewed.
