OBITUARY: Ellis Lane Jr.

Ellis Lane Jr., 75, died Tuesday, November 6, 2018, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born July 25, 1943, in Walterboro, he was the son of the late George Ellis Lane Sr. and the late Laura Nadine Crosby Lane Beach. He was the owner and operator of Ellis Lane Carpet and Floor Covering and he was a member of the Presbyterian Church at Manning. Affectionately known to his friends as “E.J.”, Ellis adored his church, golf buddies and close friends. His family, especially his grandchildren, were the love of his life.

He is survived by two daughters, Susan Lane Steiner (Tripp) of Columbia and Carrie Anna Lane Strange (Morgan) of Manning; a sister, Annie Heatley; a half-sister, Mary Lou Carnes; a half-brother, Henry Beach; three grandchildren, Chappell, Lane and Adelle Steiner; the mother of his children, Peggy Sue Richbourg Lane; special companion, Yana K. Mathis; and his loyal and beloved co-workers, Tommy Lee Parker, Tyronne Wright and Bo Parker.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Nadine Marie Braxton, and a half-brother, Billy Haskell Beach.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 9, 2018, at the Presbyterian Church at Manning with the Rev. Dr. George Wilkes officiating.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 8, 2018, at Stephens Funeral Home and other times at 1390 Lake Shore Drive, Manning.
