The LMA JV girls lost tonight to Ben Lippen, with a final score of 22-23. This gives the team a 1-1 record. LMA hosts Carolina Academy on Monday night.

The LMA JV Girls team won its first game of the season against The King’s Academy in Florence on Thursday night, with a final score of 31-14. Madison Truett led the ‘Cats with 11 points, Carleigh Moore with seven, LB Brogdon with six, Lindsey Barwick with four, and Paisley Anderson and Ansley Nelson each with one.

For The King’s Academy, Mikala John scored 12 points, and Sarah Porter and Gabriel Finklea each scored one.

OBITUARY: Sylvia Christina Ash Herlong

Sylvia Christina Ash Herlong, 83, widow of Hoyt Herlong, died Monday, November 26, 2018, at her home.

Born October 12, 1935, in Aurora, Missouri, she was a daughter of the late Sidney A. Ash and the late Bertha M. Powers Ash.

She is survived by a son, Hoyt Henson Herlong (Barbara Roy) of Atlantic Beach, Florida; two grandchildren, Kyle Herlong of Atlantic Beach, Florida and Laura Jayne Adams (Justin) of Greer.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at New Covenant Presbyterian Church.

Clarendon Hall Varsity Girls lost to Scott’s Branch by a score of 19-57. Whitney Avins led the Lady Saints with 14 points. Bailey Corbett and Amberly Way had 2 points each with Way collecting 4 rebounds. McKenzie Bagnal finished the night with 6 rebounds.

Clarendon Hall Varsity Boys defeated Scott’s Branch Thursday at Scott’s Branch by a score of 78-69. Zyan Gilmore led the Saints in 1st game of the season with 25 points, 8 rebounds and 8 steals. Kylic Horton and Tyrese Mitchum added 11 points each with Horton grabbing 7 rebounds and Mitchum with 6. Kade Elliott finished with 8 points, 6 rebounds and 4 blocked shots.

FINAL: Manning Junior High Boys and Girls Basketball

The Manning Junior High girls basketball team won tonight against Alice Drive with a final score of 34-12. The leading scorers were Taylor Gourdine with 12 points, Samyia Witherspoon with 9 points and Delbria Joe with six points.

The boys basketball team lost, however, with a final score of 16-44. The leading scorers Jacob Kinnard with 13 points and Justin Daniels with nine points.

The MJHS teams play again on Monday and Thursday.

Clarendon Health System service awards event

Clarendon Health System held its 2018 service awards banquet on November 9 at The Matrix Center in Manning. CHS owns and operates three long-term health facilities: Lake Marion Nursing Facility in Summerton, Windsor Manor in Manning and Lake Moultrie Facility in St. Stephen in Berkeley County.

The event recognized those with service lasting five, 10, 15 and 20 years, as well as recognizing everyone who had put forth effort during Hurricane Florence. Director Robin Matthews welcomed everyone.

Rantz Andrew Killman, 57, died Thursday, November 29, 2018, at his home.

Born January 2, 1961, in Phoenix, Arizona, he was a son of Woodrow Killman and Teri Ester Wood Norsworthy. He was a carpenter and he loved the outdoors.

St. Peter’s Masonic Lodge recognizes ladies’ service

St. Peter’s Masonic Lodge held their annual ladies’ night on November 13 at Porter Jacks in Manning. The event recognized the ladies who support the Masons all year long. Often, fundraisers and meetings keep the Masons out late and away from home, and these ladies step in to assist in any way they can.

During this year’s ceremony, two Masonic widows, Jeanie Geddings and Betty Strange, were each presented with a single white rose in recognition. Chaplain Carl Farley made the presentations.

David LeGrande Hodge, 76, husband of Carol Avis Dyson Hodge, died Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at Palmetto Health Tuomey.

Born December 29, 1941, in Florence, he was a son of the late Marion Covert Hodge and the late Lovie Harrington Hodge. He was a retired farmer and enjoyed driving tractors, and he attended Trinity United Methodist Church.

Summerton children get new coats

Once again, the Summerton Rotary Club has reached out to embrace the community through giving. Every year, the Summerton Rotary hosts fundraisers to support local residents with projects such as scholarships for students or sponsorships to send students to Palmetto Boys and Girls State.

The Summerton Rotary Club was formed in 2006 and currently has 30 active members. The Club meets each Thursday morning at 7:15 a.m. at St. Matthias Church in Summerton.

According to Cleve Dowell, Summerton Rotary’s Secretary/Treasurer, the Club began a “Coats and Shoes” project about five years ago. The Club applies each year for a grant … Read the rest
