Duke official: Michael could lead to 'significant power outages' throughout Carolinas

Duke Energy spokesman Theo Lane said in an email Wednesday that although Hurricane Michael will touch the midlands as a tropical storm, it could still cause massive power outages in the Carolinas. "The combination of heavy rainfall (3 to 6 inches, with locally higher amounts possible) and the threat of wind gusts 40-60 mph will lead to significant power outages across the entire Carolinas service area," said Lane. "In addition, there is a risk of isolated tornados on Thursday, mainly along and east of I-95 as the hurricane remnants track through the region."
