Tropical Storm Warning issued for Clarendon, Midlands

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Clarendon County and other areas in South Carolina, including Aiken, Bamberg, Barnwell, Burke, Calhoun, Chester, Columbia, Edgefield, Fairfield, Kershaw, Lancaster, Lee, Lexington, Lincoln, McCormick, McDuffie, Newberry, Orangeburg, Richland, Richmond, Saluda and Sumter. Hurricane Michael is currently about 320 miles southwest of Columbia or about 250 miles southwest of Augusta, Georgia. Winds are sustained at about 125 mph, and its movement is north-northeast at 16 mph. Hurricane Michael made landfall over the Florida Panhandle and will begin to slowly weaken as it tracks northeastward across southern Georgia overnight. The storm will approach the Central Savannah River Area of Georgia tonight, then track through South Carolina on Thursday as a tropical storm. Overnight and through Thursday, there will be a threat of tropical storm force wind gusts, tornadoes and flash flooding. Protect against dangerous wind having possible significant impacts across the Midlands of central South Carolina and east central Georgia CSRA. Potential impacts include: * Some damage to roofing and siding materials, along with damage to porches, awnings, carports, and sheds. * A few buildings experiencing window, door, and garage door failures. Mobile homes damaged, especially if unanchored. * Unsecured lightweight objects become dangerous projectiles. * Several large trees snapped or uprooted, but with greater numbers in places where trees are shallow rooted. Several fences and roadway signs blown over. * Some roads impassable from large debris, and more within urban or heavily wooded places. A few bridges, causeways, and access routes impassable. * Scattered power and communications outages, but more prevalent in areas with above ground lines.
