ALCOLU – Loma Elizabeth Thigpen Pack, 96, widow of George W. Pack, Jr., died Thursday, August 30, 2018, at NHC of Sumter. Born April 18, 1922, in Manning, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Jackson Thigpen and the late Annie Corrie Gladden Thigpen. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Alcolu. She is survived by a son, Bobby G. Accident victim identified

A 73-year-old Pinewood man was killed Thursday afternoon in a single-vehicle accident at Alex Harvin Highway and Rev. J.W. Carter Road, according to Clarendon County Coroner Bucky Mock. The Clarendon County Fire Department responded to the scene along with Clarendon County EMS. Steven Spann, the lone occupant of the vehicle, was transported to McLeod Clarendon by ambulance where he died at 2:02 p.m., Mock said. “The accident happened at 12:40 p.m.,” Mock added. “Mr. Spann was ejected from the vehicle and died at the hospital from chest trauma less than two hours later.” Contact the South Carolina Highway Patrol for… Read the rest

LMA teacher wins back-to-school goodie basket

Mrs. Wendie Harrington, a 5K teacher at Laurence Manning Academy, was nominated by Adley Wilfong to receive the Kona Ice Back-to-School Teacher Appreciation basket. She won! Mr. Dan Palumbo, from Kona Ice of Sumter, presented Mrs. Harrington with her goodie basket today. Her kids even got a snow cone!
