Defendant LaNette Samuels-Cooper’s attorney filed a despositive motion last night based on the grounds of statute 7-17-530, 560, and 520. He states the plaintiff failed to exhaust administrative remedies that were available. Posted on July 19, 2018 10:10 am by Robert "Bobby" Ridgeway III

A couple of weeks ago, I had an unfortunate encounter with a chainsaw. Deborah and I would like to take this opportunity to express our thanks publically.

First, thanks to God for always looking out for us, especially when we make mistakes.

Next, Deborah and I would like to thank the Manning and Clarendon County Fire Departments, the Manning Police Department, Clarendon County Sheriff’s Department, and Clarendon County Emergency Medical Services. They all responded when the call for help went out and I know that they didn’t do this just for me. Because I happen to be an emergency responder … Read the rest

Posted on July 18, 2018 4:04 pm by Laura Stone

Manning Police Chief Blair Shaffer was terminated on July 12 by the Public Safety Committee. The newly formed committee had the power to terminate a public safety officer, so the termination was performed through proper channels. Or was it?

The Committee would evaluate public safety programs and activities; administer public safety personnel activities; and hire, supervise and discipline public safety staff.

Longest lasting store in the Stuckey chain

Posted on July 17, 2018 6:06 am by Laura Stone

Summerton is losing an icon. Jan Solver, manager of Stuckey’s for the last 20 years, will retire by the end of the year and will move back to Oklahoma to be near her family.

The Stuckey’s stores began in the 1940s, rapidly spreading across the U.S. In the 1960s, Stuckey’s and Pet, Inc., merged, with W.S. Stuckey, Sr., staying on as president over the Stuckey’s stores. Nelson pointed out that Ordinance 2018-04 was given final reading and … Read the rest
