The National Weather Service out of Columbia has confirmed that an EF0 tornado touched down near Cameron in Calhoun County on May 28.
That same day, Subtropical Storm Alberto made landfall near Laguna Beach, Florida, during thel ate afternoon and continued moving slowly northward toward the Tennessee Valley, ushering warm and moist air into the southeastern United States. The Midlands and Central Savannah River Area were located in the front-right quadrant of the storm. It is an historically favorable area for tropical tornadoes.
