Scott's Branch track team takes 5th in Sumter meet

The Scott's Branch High School varsity track and field team finished fifth Tuesday in a six-team track meet held at Memorial Stadium in Sumter. Other area teams in the tournament included Sumter High, which finished third, and Lakewood, which finished fourth. In individual events, Paulette Wimberly won first place in the 100 with a time of 12.70. Mary Wimberly came up No. 1 in the 600 with a time of 6:23, while Amber Johnson did the same in the 100 hurdles with a time of 19.73. The Lady Eagles also took the 4x400 Relay with a time of 4:38:09. Rounding out the first place finishes was Chaniya Monroe, who won the shot put with a distance of 33.04. The Eagles took third place in the 4x100 Relay, and Cambria Parker took the same place in the high jump. West Florence High School won the tournament with 144 points, followed by South Florence's 120 points. SHS had 112, while Lakewood had 71 and Scott's Branch had 68. Calhoun County put up only two points.
