Sen. Scott congratulates Marvin Quattlebaum, confirmed as Federal Judge for S.C.

Sen. Tim Scott expressed his congratulations to Mr. Marvin Quattlebaum after he was confirmed by the Senate to serve as a federal judge on the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina. He was confirmed with a vote of 69 to 28.

S.C. House creates legislation to enforce litter laws

South Carolina lawmakers have written new legislation that aims to help litter control efforts. House Bill 4458 (H. 4458) revises the state code that addresses litter providing new regulations for community service, defining illegal dumping and changing fines based on weights and types of violations.

The goal of this legislation is to hone the tool that officers and judges use to enforce state litter laws. The changes requested in this legislation have been researched and are based on experiences that SC officers have dealt with in the field and in the court room.

Summerton to hold Planning Commission meeting

The town of Summerton will have their Planning Commission meeting at 4:00 p.m. March 1, 2018. The meeting will be held at the Summerton Town Hall located at 10 Main Street, Summerton.

The agenda includes the approval of minutes from August 7, 2017, Jan. 25, 2018 and Feb. 8, 2018.

Business scheduled is for an update on the Land Use Plan by Dickie Felder.


Margaret Weeks Nunamaker

Margaret Weeks Nunamaker, 77, widow of Jacob Lawrence Nunamaker III, died Wed. Feb. 28, 2018 at her home.

Born Feb. 8, 1941, in Alcolu, she was a daughter of the late Legrand Dickson Weeks and the late Linnie Mae McAllister Weeks. She worked with the youth of Little Star Pentecostal Holiness Church for 25 years. She was an administrative specialist for the SC Department of Juvenile Justice and a loving mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her son, Jacob Lawrence “Lonny” Nunamaker IV (Bari) of Louisville, KY; two sisters, Joyce Gibson of Murfreesboro, TN and Barbara Denham of Darlington; … Read the rest


Sixth Annual Lasagna Dinner and Silent Auction big success

The sixth annual lasagna dinner and silent auction, a fundraiser to benefit A Second Chance Animal Shelter, was held Saturday evening at Manning United Methodist Church in the fellowship hall. A total of 154 tickets were sold with proceeds at roughly $6,000. The event included dinner prepared by Chef Ted Brownell. On the menu was three-cheese lasagna with rich meat sauce, steamed spring vegetables, Caesar salad with grilled chicken and sundried tomatoes, garlic bread and a choice of dessert.
