Royalty Autos Sales holds ribbon cutting Feb. 16

On Feb. 16, Royalty Auto Sales opened its doors for business in Manning. Family and friends, along with community leaders and prospective buyers came out to welcome Carl Beard and Mike Ogburn, longtime friends and partners at Royalty Auto Sales. Carl Beard said, “This is a dream come true. I have been in the car business for over 34 years and God blessed me with this opportunity. Mike and I worked hard to get here. East Clarendon battles Scott’s Branch for Lower State crown

The Lady Wolverines of East Clarendon and the Scott’s Branch Eagles travelled to Florence to play for the Lower State Championship. At the end of the first half, East Clarendon let the Eagles 29-23.

Optimist Club has big plans to help kids go to Camp Woodie and Leopold

The Clarendon County Optimist Club met Feb. 22 at Faye’s at the Lake to discuss plans for recognizing the local winner of the essay contest. The Optimist Club supports local children with events and fundraisers. The club is in talks with Ed Paul from the S.C. Waterfowl Association and representative for Camp Woodie and Camp Leopold. These camps are designed to get children outdoors and away from technology so that they can develop a love and respect for the natural world. LMA Golf team opens season with first place finish

Laurence Manning Academy hosted Calhoun Academy and Cardinal Newman Academy’s Varsity Men’s golf teams at The Players Course at Wyboo in Manning for a non-conference match. LMA finished in first place. Grant Kinlaw and Lexi Bennett ended the match with 43 strokes. Van Gardner shot a 44 and Harper Epperson ended the day at 45 for a final total team score of 175.

Calhoun Academy finished second in this event with low scores from John Michael Flintom with 39, Clay Crenshaw with 40, Pressley Smith and Garrett Phillips had 50 for a total team score of 179. Flintom had the … Read the rest

Clarendon Elite hosts annual youth football camp June 15, 16

Clarendon Elite will host it’s 2nd Annual Youth Football Camp on June 15 and 16. This year the camp will be an overnight event. The event will be held at Manning High School’s Ramsey Stadium and John F. Thames Gymnasium. All participants can be dropped off at 4:00 p.m. June 15 at Ramsey Stadium and will begin the first part of the camp. Athletes will then transition to the gymnasium for team building exercises and leisure time.

Nation History Day: LMA encourages historical awareness, hosts competition

To bring historical awareness and urge middle school and high school students to become involved in researching historical events, Laurence Manning Academy (LMA) celebrated its annual National History Day (NHD) on Feb. 12.
According to its website, the NHD organization seeks to educate students by offering a competitive outlet for creativity, scholarship, critical thinking skills and expression. While individual schools may have certain preferences, the NHD organization allows projects for the competition to take form in several different creative mediums. Students may enter original papers, websites, exhibits, performances or documentaries.

LMA middle school dance soloist gets high scores at championship

LMA Middle school soloist Kinsey Hatchell had the highest scoring ballet dance at the SCISA Dance State Championship Thursday night.

The Swampcat dance teams brought home championships for elementary and middle school level. The high school dance team finished 2nd overall.

LMA Elementary dance team wins SCISA State Dance Championship

The Laurence Manning Elementary dance team had the highest score in the Jazz Dance at the SCISA State Dance Championship. The dance routine rocketed them to the top and guaranteed there place as champions. They were scored as overall winner of the SCISA Dance State Championship.

Charmin is a 5 month old, female domestic long hair kitten. She is such a very loving baby that loves to cuddle and is most definitely a lap cat. She is current on all of her age appropriate shots, has been spayed and has tested negative for Feline Leukemia and AIDS. Please stop by the shelter to see this beautiful girl and the rest of her siblings! Office hours are 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

Varsity Ladies from Scott’s Branch and East Clarendon to face off for Lower State Championship

Monday night, Clarendon County had two high school teams in playoff competition to earn the chance to play for the Lower State Championship at the Florence Civic Center this Friday. The East Clarendon Wolverines visited Palmetto Scholars Academy in North Charleston and earned a big victory on the road, 73 to 37. The Wolverines went 14-6 this year with a 6-1 region record. This game was part of the 2018 SCHSL Girls State Basketball State Championships – Class A Girls Basketball tournament.
