The Clarendon County Optimist Club met Feb. 22 at Faye’s at the Lake to discuss plans for recognizing the local winner of the essay contest. The Optimist Club supports local children with events and fundraisers. The club is in talks with Ed Paul from the S.C. Waterfowl Association and representative for Camp Woodie and Camp Leopold. These camps are designed to get children outdoors and away from technology so that they can develop a love and respect for the natural world. It teaches children about hunting and fishing but more importantly, about conservation and communication. The Optimist Club is interested in sponsoring a child from Clarendon County to send to the camps. They are discussing possible fundraising ideas and welcome any support from the community.
