A 47-year-old New Zion man will serve 10 years in prison after pleading guilty recently two two counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor. Isidro Beltran of 1058 Sunshine Acres in Turbeville pleaded guilty Jan. 18 before Circuit Court Judge D. Craig Brown at the Clarendon County Courthouse, specifically, to two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor, commit or attempt of lewd act with a victim younger than 16 years and older than 14 years. Beltran was initially charged June 9, 2017, with two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor younger than 11 years of age. Sheriff Tim Baxley said at the time of Beltran's arrest that the victim alleged that Beltran held her down by her arms and initiated sexual intercourse with her initially in summer 2012, and then, in a separate incident, in May 2017, undressed the girl in an attempt to sexually assault her. Beltran stopped his attempt when the girl’s sister came in the room, according to warrants. Beltran remained at the Clarendon County Detention Center after his arrest, held without bond. Baxley said that Beltran's case had been turned over to immigration officials and that he could ultimately be deported.
