Celestine J. Cooper is looking for a few good men and women. As program coordinator for the Clarendon chapter of the Cass Elias McCarter Guardian ad Litem Program, Cooper said she is in dire need of volunteers to help abused and neglected children in Clarendon year-round. "The season of giving was just upon us, and there is no better gift than giving back to your community," said Cooper. "Being a volunteer with the Cass Elias McCarter Guardian ad Litem Program allows you to give a short amount of your time to an abused and neglected child in Clarendon County all year round. The joy you will receive knowing you made a difference in the life of a child is priceless." Cooper said that guardian ad litems serve as voices for the children they serve." "By volunteering, you can make a deep and lasting impact on a deserving child who is in need of help," Cooper said. "Being a Guardian ad Litem volunteer means you are the eyes and ears for a judge and the person who tells the child’s story to the court. The goal for all of the children we serve is a safe, permanent home." To volunteer, you must be at least 21 years old, be able to pass background and reference checks and successfully complete the free 30-hour training. Cooper said the next training session begins Jan. 9. Visit gal.sc.govgal.sc.gov to learn more.
