PAXVILLE – Carrie Lee Scott Ardis, 77, widow of Louie Elmer Ardis, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2017, at McLeod Health Clarendon.
Born March 27, 1940, in Paxville, she was a daughter of the late Richard Manning Scott and the late Gladys Myrtle Kolb Scott. She was the owner and operator of Ardis Income Tax Service and was member of Paxville Baptist Church.

The Clarendon County Pilot Club would like to thank the following contributors who made the annual Walk for Brain Health held Oct. 14 in Manning such a success.
Through your efforts, the Pilot Club was able to provide funds to the CART Rotary Club Alzheimer’s Research Program; Camp Burnt Gin; the Wounded Warriors Project; the Special Olympics; United Ministries; the Council on Aging; the Manning High School FFA, and the Laurence Manning academy Anchor Club. Funds were also used to purchase bike helmets for children who participated in Kids’ Day of Clarendon County.

GOP to hold Christmas Party on Dec. 14

The Clarendon County Republican Party will hold its annual Christmas Party at 7 p.m. Dec. 14 at Cornerstone Fellowship Free Will Baptist Church, 2116 Greeleyville Highway in Manning, with doors opening at 6 p.m. Dinner, prepared by ladies of the church, will be provided at 6:30 p.m. Donations are welcome. Mary Alice Hoyt will be the special guest for the evening, providing musical selections on her harp. There will also be door prizes.


Poll: Tax Code Overhaul

Republicans are rushing to pass the biggest revamp of the US tax code in decades. What makes it into a final compromise between the House bill and the Senate bill remains to be seen.

A slight majority of Americans are skeptical of the Republican Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, with 53 percent predicting they will not see a reduction in their taxes and the same majority saying the reform will not help dramatically help the economy, according to a USA Today poll. KINGSTREE – Henry De Leon Brown, 80, widower of Willa Mae Miles Brown, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2017, at Carolinas Hospital System in Florence.
Born Aug. 17, 1937, in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Henry Oliver Brown and Linnie M. McKenzie Brown.
He was a longtime member of Terrell’s Church of God of Prophecy.
Mr. Brown was a retired refrigeration mechanic. He enjoyed spending time with his family and fishing and playing his guitar.

Governor names chef ambassadors for 2018

South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster named Friday the 2018 South Carolina Chef Ambassadors. Each year, chefs from across South Carolina are nominated to serve as the state’s culinary ambassadors, and the governor chooses four to participate.
Those selected to serve for 2018 include:

PINEWOOD – Martha Lou Brailsford, 70, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017, at her home, 8572 Old River Road in Pinewood.
Born Dec. 24, 1946, in Rimini, she was a daughter of Richard Brailsford and Lorena Richardson Brailsford.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017, at St. Phillips UME Church in Pinewood, with the Rev. Patrice Dow, pastor, officiating. The Revs. Denzel Hampton, Mary Lou Brailsford, Robert China and James Lee Clark assisted. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
The family received friends at the home of her sister, Mae Richardson, 1267 Festival Drive in Summerton.

Viola Bennett Banks, 85, wife of Joe Banks, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence.
Born May 4, 1932, in Manning, she was a daughter of the late Archie Bennett and Lillie Carter Bennett
Funeral services for Mrs. Banks will be held 1 pm. Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2017, at Pine Grove AME Church in Greeleyville, with the Rev. Harvey Doctor, pastor, officiating.
Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery.
