LMA Middle School Student Council gathers items for needy families

Members of the Laurence Manning Academy Middle School Student Council collected items from the lower school and middle school for Agape Hospice. Toiletry items, devotionals, notebooks and other items were collected to make gift bags for residents.


Wreck with entrapments on U.S. 521

The S.C. Highway Patrol is reporting a wreck with injuries in the 2200 block of Greeleyville Highway (U.S. 521) in Manning, near the Kent Bicycle Plant. According to reports, there were three entrapments. Manninglive.com will have an update if injuries are life-threatening or fatal.

Lady Wolverines defeat Lake City

The East Clarendon High School Lady Wolverines defeated Lake City on Friday night by a final score of 70-45. Malaysia Cooper put up 50 points and eight rebounds for the team, along with seven steals Valencia Garris had 11 points and 15 rebounds. Rhamey Floyd had three points. Caitlin Timmons, Gracen Watts and Britni Anderson each had two points.


Swampcats defeat C.A. Johnson

The Laurence Manning Academy varsity Swampcats defeated C.A. Johnson on Saturday by a final score of 36-27 in the Home Pest Control Holiday Classic at the Heathwood Hall gymnasium. The team improved to 7-3 on the season with the win. Jerrell Kelly led the team with 11 points and 14 rebounds. He blocked nine shots. Chase Lee made nine points, while Taylor Lee made eight.


B-Team Lady Saints defeated Andrew Jackson

The Clarendon Hall B-Team girls’ basketball team also defeated Andrew Jackson by a score of 18-16. Amberly Way led the Lady Saints with eight points. Coleen McIntosh added five points while Sydney Berry and LeAnna Brodaway had two points each. Macy McIntosh rounded out the scoring with one point.

B-Team Saints defeat Andrew Jackson

The Clarendon Hall B-Team boys’ basketball team defeated Andrew Jackson Saturday in Summerton by a score of 18-17. William Rogan led the B-Team Saints with eight points. Kole Elliott and Wilder Robinson had four points each. Karson Feild rounded out the scoring with two points.


Swampcats fall to Heathwood Hall

The Laurence Manning Academy varsity Swampcats fell 64-54 on Friday to Heathwood Hall in the Home Pest Control Holiday Classic at the Heathwood Hall gymnasium. Jerrell Kelly led the team with 15 points. Taylor Lee added 14 points, while Grayson Dennis had 10 points and Dawson Hatfield had eight.


Mother, infant shot in Turbeville

The Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating an incident in which a Turbeville woman and her 11-month-old infant were shot late Saturday night.
Sheriff Tim Baxkey said the victim was lying in bed with her baby, watching TV, when an unknown assailant shot twice through the window of her mobile home on Mikey Street in Turbeville. The woman was hit in the arm, while the child was hit in the thigh.
The injuries were non-life threatening, but the woman and infant were flown to McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence for treatment.

Haulean T. Smith, 85, of Summerton, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2017, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence.
Born Aug. 25, 1932, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Maureen Tindal and Willie Bennett Green.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017, at Historic Liberty Hill AME Church in Summerton. Interment will follow at St. Mark AME Church cemetery.
The family is receiving friends at the home, 12 Hill St. in Summerton.

NEW ZION – Mary Nell Lee Floyd, 80, widow of Benjamin F. Floyd, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2017, at her home, after an illness.
A funeral service was held Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017, at Pine Dale Pentecostal Holiness Church, with burial at the church cemetery, directed by Floyd Funeral Home of Olanta.

Saints remain undefeated with win against Andrew Jackson

The Clarendon Hall varsity boys’ basketball team remained undefeated in region play Friday night with a 88-69 victory over Andrew Jackson Academy in Summerton. Zyan Gilmore led the Saints with 34 points. Kylic Horton had 26 points, and Dyland Way had 13 points and six rebounds. Tyrese Mitchum led the rebounds with 12 to go along with his nine points. The Saints will travel Monday to Beaufort Academy.

Lady Saints pick up region win against Andrew Jackson Academy

The Clarendon Hall varsity Lady Saints picked up a region win over Andrew Jackson on Friday in basketball by a final scoreof 38-21. Whitney Avins led the Lady Saints with 18 points. Mallory McIntosh had eight points, and Hannah Corbett had seven points and seven rebounds. Sydney Wells finished with nine rebounds. The Lady Saints are now 2-2 in region play.
