SBMS Eagles fall to Gibbes Middle School

The Scott’s Branch Middle School Eagles fell 52-31 to Gibbes Middle School in the Chestnut Oaks Middle School Christmas Tournament held Dec.23 at Sumter school. Randy Gibson led the EAgles with 12 points. The Eagles defeated three other teams in previous tournament games, including DArlington (50-44), Southeast (36-33) and C.E. Murray (53-29). Gibson led the Eagles in the game against Darlington with 20 points, while Tariq Coard had 13. l Zakee Rendell and Tydarian Chandler both had six. War Eagles fall to Lee Central in District 9 final

The C.E. Murray War Eagles fell 72-66 on Saturday to Lee Central High School in Bishopville to give the Stallions the District 9 championship. The two teams had went head-to-head after playing others throughout the District 9 Officials Christmas Basketball Tournament over the past week.

Saints defeat Dorchester Academy in Christmas tournament

The Clarendon Hall varsity boys’ basketball team defeated Dorchester Academy in the Orangeburg Prep Christmas Tournament by a score of 69-63. Zyan Gilmore led the Saints with 34 points and eight rebounds. Tyrese Mitchum and Kylic Horton had nine points each, and Dylan Way added eight points. Kade Elliott finished with eight rebounds and six points. The Saints are now 7-1 on the season.

Aston Martin recalling more than 5K vehicles in the U.S.

British sports car manufacturer Aston Martin is recalling about 5,500 vehicles in the United States due to problemswith powertrains and battery cables, according to documents posted on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administrator’s website. The recalls are expected to begin on Feb. 1, 2018, and come as the owners of the carmaker made famous by fictional spy James Bond prepare for a stock market listing or sale of the company. I wanted to update everyone on the success of the Angel Tree project undertaken by students in the 4-H Club at Laurence Manning Academy. The outpouring of support from the community was overwhelmimg. We truly made a difference for these kids! (EDITOR’S NOTE: Students with the club joined advisor Crystal Bell in placing a Christmas tree at the Harvin Clarendon County Library; the tree had tickets that listed a child’s age and gift items one might get for each child. JV Eagles fall to Camden

The Scott’s Branch High School junior varsity Eagles fell Friday to Camden by a final score of 45-27 in the 2017 Columbia High School Christmas Tournament. Brandon Nobleled the team with seven points, while Almont Rendell followed closely with six points. Both Gabriel Oliver and Shareef Mims scored four points. Jalyn Gibson scored three points, Jalen Smith scored two points and Xavier Benetts cored one point.
