Samuel Holland Porter, 91, widower of Doris Toole Porter, died Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017, at McLeod Regional Medical Center.

Born May 13, 1926, in Charlotte, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Charles Howard Porter Sr. and the late Hannah Holland Porter. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and served in Gen. Douglas McArthur’s Honor Guard. He was a charter member of the Steele Creek Volunteer Fire Department and retired from Eastern Airlines as an operations agent with 27 years of service. After he retired, he worked as a shuttle bus driver for the Charlotte-Douglas Airport for 10 years. He was a member and loved his church family at Grace Christian Fellowship Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Catherine P. Dover of Lancaster, Ann P. Walters of Manning and Judith P. Calhoun (Glenn) of Waukesha, Wisconsin; a brother, William N. Porter of Tampa, Florida; and four grandchildren, JudithAnn Dover, James P. Dover (Christina), Mary Elizabeth Calhoun and Denise Marie Calhoun.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017, at Grace Christian Fellowship Church with the Rev. Mike Murdoch officiating.

Visitation will be held an hour prior to services in the church fellowship hall, and other times at the home, 1804 Strickland Road in Manning.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017, at Steele Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Charlotte.
