Christmas time is here

Posted
Thanksgiving just blew by. Can you believe it? The impossible has happened, also. The tree is up. I can’t believe that. We got the Christmas up without destroying the ceiling. Usually, we have already lined up a painter to repaint the ceiling. This year, we got the tree up without destroying the ceiling. Now we are putting the additional ties on the tree that keep it attached to the wall. How else can you keep it from falling? There are a couple of things to do before we can be over Thanksgiving and fully into the Christmas spirit. I’ve been wondering for several years if there is a way to combine rice, mashed potatoes, peas, butter beans, ham and turkey into a dish that can be readily microwaved? If you could throw all that stuff into one container and have a heated up meal, that would be the best. Some of the Thanksgiving Day meal ingredients are hard to mix. Cold rice and mashed potatoes don’t seem to mix readily. At least we only have one more day of the Thanksgiving leftovers. The tree trimming is the next project. That is not too much of a problem once the tree is up. Getting the tree into the house and secured is the hardest part. When that is done, putting on lights and decorations don’t seem quite as hard. The shopping is the only thing left to complain about. We’ve already heard the complaints about shopping on Thanksgiving Day. Lots of people think it is terrible to shop on Thanksgiving Day. They want everyone to wait until 3 o’clock on Friday morning before the shopping begins. I wonder what is wrong with shopping on Thursday? Shopping can be done 24 hours a day now. Why wait? You can shop through cyber space and go into brick and mortar stores. It can be delivered to your house or you can pick it up at a store. There is still a month to go before Christmas, and we are already freaking out about shopping. When I was a kid, I remember a Christmas that was going to be on a Monday. Almost every store was closed on Sunday. The big talk was that stores were going to stay open until midnight on Saturday. The stores would be closed Sunday. If your Christmas shopping wasn’t finished on Saturday, it would just be a calamity. It’s hard to believe with all these avenues to spend money, we can still be plagued by our worst enemy: procrastination. I hate to brag but I’ve almost finished all the shopping I’m going to do this year. The tree is up and the Thanksgiving meal is just a memory. Now the countdown begins. How can time move so quickly? I’ve managed to miss the riot at the mall. The best part is I didn’t have to get anything that would save money. I haven’t been looking for an appliance or TV that is marked down 10,000 percent. If I can get through Charlie Brown Christmas, Rudolph the Snowman, The Christmas Miracle and the Hallmark Channel Christmas Marathon, all that will be left will be 1,800 college football games to decide who will be the National Champion. Whew! I’m almost tired of the season already and it has only started. Next will be those pesky New Year’s plans. You know how hard they can be.
