Manning Christmas parade takes new name, new route

The Manning Christmas Parade will not only take a different name and different time in 2017, but it will have a slightly different route.

Manning Mayor Julia Nelson said the 2017 Parade of Lights, as it's being called, will begin 5:30 p.m. Nov. 26 on the corner of Sumter and Brooks streets in front of the former Maxway. The parade will continue on Brooks Street, make a right onto Boyce Street and then make a final right turn onto Mill Street.

"We will assemble on Sumter Street at Manning Primary School," Nelson said.

Those wishing to enter the parade are asked to register at Manning City Hall or the Clarendon County Chamber of Commerce. The entry fee is $20. All check are to be made payable to the City of Manning Parade.

"All funds received will go to a charitable organization," Nelson said. "Please don’t forget to decorate your entry with lights. The more lights, the better. It would be great to see more bands and floats this year."

Nelson said she hopes neighboring communities will join in, including neighboring counties.

"Sumter, Orangeburg, Florence, all are welcome," she said. "We're so excited with seeing organizations participate and everyone coming out to enjoy this night with us."
