Manning native Keenan Brown was crowned Mr. Homecoming 2017 by Voorhees College in Denmark during the Student Government Association Homecoming service held Nov. 7 at St. Philip's Chapel.

Joining him was Luvasia Boyd, who was crowned Miss Homecoming 2017.

Brown 22, is a senior sports management major. He is a member of the Gentlemen's Social Club, the Sigma Theta Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. and the Voorhees College Track and Field Team. He is the son of Eddie and Helen Brown of Manning.

He said he decided to compete because he wanted to set the tone for leadership for the Class of 2021.

"To be crowned as homecoming king is an honor," Brown said. "I am excited about the opportunity to be a student ambassador during such an exciting time."

Brown said that Voorhees is a tight-knit community that is like a home away from home. He added that he appreciates that the college encourages students to take advantage of all the resources available to them while they are there.

Boyd, 26, is a senior business administration major from Bronx, New York. She is a member of the Golden Touch Organization, the Eta Nu Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. and Miss Black & Gold 2017. She is the daughter of Leroy and Vance Boyd.

Boyd decided to compete for Miss Homecoming to continue her heavy involvement with campus activities.

“My participation in Homecoming represents my dedication and loyalty to this great institution during these last four years," Boyd said. "This is one of the biggest events of the year. I’m excited to carry the title before becoming an alumna.”

After graduation, Boyd plans to pursue a master’s degree in business administration. Brown said he plans to volunteer as a football coach at his alma mater, Manning High School, and pursue a master’s degree in sports medicine.
