An incident at Turbeville Correctional Institution left five inmates injured early Thursday afternoon, according to officials with the South Carolina Department of Corrections.
Spokesman Jeffrey Taillon said Thursday afternoon that the inmates have received medical attention on site. He said authorities were working to secure two housing units when the incident ocurred.
“All staff are uninjured and accounted for,” Taillon said. He noted there was never a threat to the public.
Turbeville Correctional houses adult male offenders who were mostly sentenced for General Sessions Court offenses under the Youthful Offender Act. The prison opened in 1994.
