The Manning High School Class of 1987 joined with the Phi Omega Omega Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. to sponsor a Mental Health Awareness Walk on Sept. 23 at Manning High School’s Ramsey Stadium.

“We were very happy for the many sponsors that helped us to raise more than $1,200 for Santee-Wateree Mental Health Center here in Manning,” said Jacqueline Sheriod-Scott.

Kitten sponsors included Marthene Goodine, Natasha Gordon, Belinda Spry, Quentin Durant and Dana Casselman. Cub sponsors included Sen. Kevin L. Johnson; Sheriod-Scott, owner of Linens, Etc.; Tommy and Susie Clark, owners of Clark’s Commercial Cleaning Service; and Kim Mathews, co-owner of Carolina School of Real Estate.

The Phi Omega Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. of Manning served as the Panther Sponsor.

“We were happy to have more than 25 people to participate in this inaugural event,” Sheriod-Scott said. “We were pleased to have our friends, family, other Manning High School alumnae and community members support our efforts.”

Wateree Mental Health Center’s Dr. Linda Myers said the main use for funds raised through the walk will be toward the purchase of gas cards. She said many of the organization’s clients who need treatment have difficulty with funds and finding transportation to the center.

“We were so excited to make an impact in our community as we celebrated our 30th class reunion,” Sheriod-Scott said. “We hope that this partnership will continue for many years to come.”
