The chairman of the Clarendon School District 1 Board of Trustees was charged last week after an 8-year-old boy told authorities the man hit him with a belt on his body. Tony Junious of Summerton is charged with unlawful act toward a child, a felony in South Carolina, according to reports. Junious is reportedly the boy's adopted father. Documents show that Junious was arrested on warrants last week and turned himself into the Clarendon County Detention Center the same day. Bond information was not immediately available Wednesday night. Junious has served as an elected member of the Clarendon School District 1 Board of Trustees at various times since the early 2000s. He left the board after two terms in 2008 to join Summerton Town Council. Records are unclear as to when he joined the board, but he was again an elected member after the November 2014 general election. Clarendon 1's board is comprised of five elected members and four appointed members. The latter members are chosen by the Clarendon County School Board for staggered four-year terms.
